@meattube4u33 He probably has the A/C on inside the car. The gas engine will kick on and off periodically to power the A/C if it's on.
-
Why is it running in park sitting still? isnt that wasting gas? p.s. it sounds like a rattle trap piece of shit.
-
@RobertGary1 - yeah, if you make back that ten grand in a year, then you're in front.

@urbex2007 finally! im sick of reading the opinions of keyboard mechanics and tuners, as i say to my customers if you want to demonstrate this to yourself, take your k&n, and clean the inlect tract POST filter, drive around for 6 thousand miles and inspect your inlect tract, take note of the gritty nasty dust. also take note of kn marketing and show me some cars they are used on which have to maintain any resonable engine service life, like sponser cars etc, you wont see kn on dakar cars n bikes

@063209dr They also have a huge depreciation and not many garages will work on the cars due to the battery. This means far higher servicing costs. The batteries only last about 10miles anyway, so why didn't Toyota stick a diesel engine in the Prius!!! Their MPG calculations are very misleading.
-
@RobertGary1 He would be better off with a turbo diesel. More economical, faster, cheaper to insure and tax too. Even a basic 1.6diesel will give 100+BHP and reach 62mph/100kmh in 10s, but return 50+mpg in the town and 70+mpg on a motorway. That is why spending a fortune on a prius is a silly idea.

@twestwoodward04 That is a fault with your ECU and MAF sensor then. If your car does more MPG without the original filter, it must have been blocked and not fit for purpose. Or you have a fault causing more fuel to be injected, which would be picked up by the ECU and report a problem with exhaust gases. It's always easy to see when people lie! *LEARN* about engines, don't fall for clever marketing designed to get those who don't know much to part with their money.
-
K&N is *NOT* a filter, it's surface area is about 2ft so it needs bigger holes which allow more muck and dirt in to the engine to cause damage. They block faster, need cleaning more often and performance drops after a very short time. The oil damages MAF sensors. A paper element is about 13ft in area and passes more air than the engine can use at full revs. It FILTERS the air. You are another victim of clever marketing aimed at those who don't know how engines work!

@twestwoodward04 So you spent an extra $10,000 for a car just to save $200/week?
-
Sorry, but lets get practical, it's too cramped. Which must render any repair or servicing difficult and expensive. And consequently, I'd never buy one.
does it help much?

as in gas costs yeah it does. we used to own a dodge neon and we would spend roughly 400 + on gas a month (that was a couple years ago tho so at these prices who knows we have had it since 05-06) now we fill up about 2-4 times a week same long distance travleing (to and from work) and we might spend around 200 a month. it costs us about 40 per complete fill up and depending on how much we travel around. we can get up to 52 mpg with it,we have never gotten less than 40 mpg

awesome
i love K&N's
and a k&N + a prius = INSANE fuel economy
