Kazimierz Deyna (23 October 1947 -- 1 September 1989) was a Polish footballer, midfielder, one of the best marksmen in the history of world and Polish football. Played for Legia Warsaw, Manchester City and San Diego Sockers.

In 1969 and 1970 his team won the Polish Championship. On April 24, 1968, he also played for the national team of Poland for the first time in a match against Turkey in Chorzów. Together with his team he won the gold medal in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, and the bronze in Football World Cup 1974, after a match against Brazil. In 1972 he was also the Top Goalscorer of the Olympic Games, with a total of nine goals. In 1976 Summer Olympics his team yet again reached the finals and won the silver medal. Additionally, he was ranked third in the European Footballer of the Year for 1974, behind Johann Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer respectively.

Deyna played for Poland on 97 (84 after the deduction of Olympic Football Tournament competition games) occasions, scoring 41 goals, and often captained the side. He had the ability to score from unusual positions, e.g. directly from a corner. Thanks to his skills, he was chosen several times the Football Player of the Year by Polish fans. In 1978 he captained Poland at the Football World Cup in Argentina, where the team reached the second phase.

His number 10 is retired by Legia Warszawa and San Diego Sockers.

  • @KazimierzDeynaPL

why do you think he is one of the best marksmen in the world? his stats werent great, he didnt play for the top teams in the leagues of europe at the time, i mean, his scoring rate at Legia Warszawa was pretty good, but he was a flop at man city, and then going to MLS? and MLS indoor? lols mate...

and who gives a flying fuk about him being ranked third in 1974, it means nothin, and it certainly doesnt make him one of the best of all time in the world, maybe poland, but meh

  • @TheCzechfootballer Deyna was captain of the Polish national side and joined City in 1978, one of the first wave of overseas players to play in the English league. His time at the club was marred by injury and he left in 1981 having managed only 38 appearances. However, he was an exceptionally gifted playmaker and became a cult figure with City fans.

  • @TheCzechfootballer Not I think, this is opinion more people who know Deyna, interested in him Real, Inter, Milan, Monaco, Bayern and more club, but communists not let him leave the poland in 1974.

Especially for him to Polish, to Warsaw came after him representatives Real Madrid, communist authorities not agreed to his departure. The museum of the Legia is his t-shirt Real Madrid number 14 for Deyna.
