How do I get a Square card reader?
Signing up for Square and receiving your free card reader is easy!

First, sign up:

Sign up on our website.
Or, sign up via the Square app. (To install the app, visit squareup.com/app on your mobile device, and you'll be taken straight to the relevant download page.)
Once you are activated, your card reader will be shipped to the address you signed up with.

Though we have had users report getting their readers in 3-5 business days, this can take 1-2 weeks. You'll automatically receive an email from us as soon as your reader is travelling to its brand new home.

Not to be rude, but u should try and have the app ready before doing a video or at least fast forward the video so we won't have deal with your learning curve. But I appreciate the video

don't use square. they're not reputable.

A gift card should work.  It may have been a damaged magnetic strip. If you put a plastic bag around the magnetic strip is should work.

this is a cool swiper i use it all the time and yes you can use a gift card i used a $40 card and it approve

You cannot use a giftcard only a major credit card.

it did not work to begin with because you used a gift card not one of the 4 main card companies, such as mastercard. thats why it worked as soon as you used one of the 4 main company cards
