These guys along with Dr Feelgood and others were really 'Pub Rock' - a southern thing(England). Not so much an underground, more homegrown/garage/playin' down the pub 'with me mates', sort of thing - in that sense yes Punk - but pre- Punk. Check out Wilko Johnson's manic guitar style on 'She does it right' by the band Dr. Feelgood. The essence was already there, the MM., just lit the fuse!

Eddie & the Hot rods are superb & are the most underated band in the whole Punk scene. Yes they were Punk cos punk simply was Do Anything you Wanna do not a uniform of safety pins/mohawks. I sometimes feel the Pistols cheated them on success.
