  • I only watched 28 seconds of this video and thank god you live in the UK where Dr. David Warrell consults for many of the venomous snake bites. You are lucky you have an abundance of antivenin where you are because you will surely need it :)

  • ahh, here is the thing bryan. you and i handle our animals VERY differently. as a result we have animals that act completely different to eachother. mambas are very intelligent and get used to routine quickly. so ones that are worked with calmly and gently on a daily basis become VERY used to it. where as snakes that arent handled at all retain their wild behavior. in a private captive environment they become more domesticated, not tame or handleable. but much easier to work with. its all about

  • it. i recently was given a group of 2.2 adult angustieps that were very used to be being restrained to be moved,. although safer in the short term, maybe not in the long term because you end up with snakes that are terrified of you whenever you go near them. i am sure you know how fast they can be. even in a big open space it can be a shitty situation. i find it FAR easier to work with these animals gently and CONFIDENTLY and the end results are amazing. you turn very defensive scared animals

  • into animals that are very manageable and easy going. which, if you have one of those hairy moments (which we ALL do at some point) it will make them slightly less hard to deal with because you have a snake that use comfortable with you handling it and will allow you to do so.

on a separate note, if you would have watched more than :28 seconds you would have seen where the snakes head was. i know black mambas can be mean and fast but ive never seen one bite through wood to be someone.

  • no disrespect to you or the institution you represent, but you and i are very different people about how we go about our daily jobs. you are very safe, no doubt about it. but at the same time, so am i just not in the exact same way. thanks for your concerns.

  • he is so calm. makes it look so easy to handle them..are the blacks less jumpy then angusticeps?? or is he just calm for ones and will make it harder for you other times you are handling him

  • all mambas have "teenage years" from about 1 meter to 2 meters they tend to be very nervous and flighty. when they get to his size, about 2.7 meters, they are very self assured. they know that you dont want to mess with them, and they are typically fine with them. i work with these guys on a daily basis. i also have quite a few black mambas. if you give me a mental black mamba i can give you back one that is this calm within a month. its all about HOW you work with them.

  • This snake has a reputation of being highly aggressive if provoked.Yet,i think in captivity, they look intelligent and calm to be handled although each individual possesses unique temperament and the risk shouldn't be underestimated.Just like king cobras, they are smart and wonderful snakes to work with but should be respected.Nice serpent !
