He is a militant that killed many American soliders for a cause. A solider killing soliders is not really terrorism, per se. There are many American soliders that have ambushed compounds in Afghanistan and are declared heros. He is a hero to millions of Muslims, I assure you. Just as you Americans view him in disgust, so do millions of other people view American troops in Afghanistan with equal disgust.
