Comparing the on board mic in the canon HF20 and attaching the Rode Video Directional Shotgun VideoMic. Canon is on the Modo SteadyCam 585 with a dual accessory shoe mount on the back. I have the Rode Dead cat windscreen over the Rode Videomic with the Original Wind Screen underneath it.

  • The sound is great with the Rode Mic in your test. How did you attach it to mini hot-shoe on your Canon without it being insecure. Thanks for the test.

  • @isinye In this vid I am using an adapter I picked up from Bestbuy for about 39.00. This adapter attaches to the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera. Its nice cause it sits back and up higher so I can still press the buttons on the top. Now I got the the Mini hot shoe adapter. I ordered it off of Amazon as well, but haven't made a video with it yet.

  • Hi!

    Great Video!

I have the HF200 (same as HF20 in case you didnt know :P ) as well and i got the Rode videomic but the quality of sound i get doesnt come close to what you had. What settings did you have on the mic and the camera? I get heaps of hissing noise when i record. I contacted Rode and they told me to find the automatic gain control settings, but i couldnt find that on the HF200. Do you know if there is a gain control setting??

  • which is better the rode mic or the dm? i make short film and want the best sound quality possible, and i also do songs no and again. also, how would i get the rode mic to attach to my canon vixia hf s200? thanks a lot!
