Part I of a AO-7 satellite contact video shot at the 2007 Dayton Hamvention. This satellite has no working batteries, so it always decides what mode to operate in when it comes out of eclipse. This time was mode B: 70cm up and 2m down. You may see a 10m horizontal receiving loop that was present just in case. The radios used were a pair of Yaesu FT-817's.

  • I like this video!

  • Nice radio :)

i hear AO-7 quite often here out in the Atlantic with my QFH and Yaesu FT817.

  • hi,

You mentioned not hearing anyone on the bird apart from your own downlink. Must be like paradise over there hi hi.

Try working the bird here in Europe..absolutely terrible. No respect, no discipline. 20 OM's ( mainly southern und eastern European stations with 100 watts plus..sorry Europe, but it's the truth )all calling at once...sounds like a CB Fieldday. It's a shame really cos there is time enough to work all.

  • Great to see.
