Building Spray Booth 1.0

After causing some serious brain damage in the last spraying session (at least it fealed that way) I decided to do something against the nastyness of spray-painting (fumes, paint flying around).

You've got a point there. I guess it isn't because well...AC powering indicates that the motor isn't brushless. This could result in sparks that' could lead to the ignition of the paint thinner...

I'll open the motor and look into it. perhaps I've to exchange it with an brushless one.

Though, would there be any kind of less deadly alternative to using the mains power line and ventilator combo?

You could use a 12V ventilator (PC stuff or bigger) and use a simple 12V transformator to avoid handling with mains power.

But then you've got to do more thoughts on how to attach the aluminum tube to the ventilator.

Simple solution to fan problem. My booth uses two 12v marine bilge fans. Designed to remove gas fumes from boat engine compartments, sealed motors are certified (USCG, CE, etc) ignition free (no sparks). Cheap (< $25), move air (200+ CFM), fit inline with 4" hose connections, with built-in mount. Powered by 5-6 amp PS (CB/Ham radio), located well away with long power cord since not spark-free. In my case, 14-amp PS for two fans and hose y-connector merges two fans into one hose, vented outside.

I was able to get a paintbooth built myself before winter. My uncle built it on top of a pre-existing workbench in the shed out of wood. There is a shelf in it to store my airbrush when I am done. It's strength is also its greatest weakness. The suction comes from range hood, which has a light. I spray forward, but the section is up.

Your simple solution may work just as well.
