  • I really like this video, even if I do not know the story behind it. Of course, Julia Ecklar's music is fantastic.

    Does anyone have Horsetamer's Daughter?

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Julia is re-recording Horse-Tamer's Daughter on her new CD. Shoot me an email and I'll send you the current snapshot of the song.

  • @GreenGestalt Making a "Terminus Est" today would be quite straightforward; practical swords are well within our understanding and ability. The "soft" and "brittle" swords you're talking about are display pieces, never meant to be used in combat. And the bead of "hydragyrum" is simply a small amount of mercury flowing up or down a tube within the blade according to its inclination.

  • Now whenever I think of Severian I think of this guy. Which is not even consistent with the books. *sigh*

    Still awesome.

  • @RotoPlasmX

Well, you want to "Borrow" some SCA guy's sword and then cut the tip off of it? They'd re-define "Get Medieval" on you!!!

It'd be awesome if someone would make a "Terminus Est" someday. Don't know if today's technology could make it, even. First, the Metallurgy of past ages is lost, new swords are either too soft or they are too brittle. Second, the balance to make a sword that could contain a bead of "Hydragyrum"...it's more of a statement of how far in the future it is.

  • I Believe the song is based on the "Book of the New Sun" series by Gene Wolfe. The first book is about a character who works as an apprentice torturer. He kills a woman rather than torture her, and in later books, her consciousness ends up in his body.

  • Agree with others this is a tad cheezy but just who is the guy in the Gurloes role here? If 'they'' ever do a feature film/s he'd be perfect for the role.

Oh btw that sword is nowhere near long enough.

  • Did SHE make this video, or did YOU make this?

  • Terminus Est is a sword in the science fiction series The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. It is wielded by Severian, a torturer and the narrator of the series.

  • and severian realizing he had been fucking his grandmother when he figures out who dorcas is
