Scott: 9-11 & US Deep State -4/5

Peter Dale Scott - author of the acclaimed "The Road to 9-11: Wealth, Empire and the Future of America" and a professor at University of California, Berkeley - discusses the history of US foreign covert operations, the secret US domestic government (ie. the "deep state"), and unintended consequences of their actions (ie. "blowback"). He describes how: (a) the roots of the "deep state" lie in creation of the CIA after World War 2; (b) the balance between the "public state" and the "deep state" has been shifting towards the latter; (c) the "deep state" lacks the checks and balances of the public state; and (d) the "deep state" and covert actions have had massive negative consequences for US economy as well as US citizens. He explains: (e) how energy dependence (on foreign oil) requires CIA for maintaining American access; (f) the rise of drug trafficking on account of CIA's need to create and/or utilize drug militias as proxy armies; (g) continuity of US policies through both Democratic and Republican administrations; (h) expansion of the "deep state" to maintain new petroleum, defense, and off-shoring related wealth creation; (i) contingency planning of the "deep state" to suspend US Constitution in case of a national emergency; and (j) and the "blowback" of US covert actions in the form of 9/11.
