For Ancelyn and Sue. This is a video tutorial of how to do isolations as well as a number of isolation variations. I recommend using a light weight hoop when you first start learning these isolations. Heavy hoops can lead to pulled muscles and slow progress.

In this video, Mulder, my bird, decided he wanted to help me teach. He was quite vocal about it. Icky, though, sleeps through it all on the little loveseat next to Mulder's cage. Such a silly animal family I have.

  • I looooooove hoopdance with a lot of isolations and this helped me a lot along my way. I was wondering if you could possibly do a tutorial on vertical lateral isolations, I think they're called (Where it looks like the hoop is shooting in a straight line out in front of you) I can't figure out how to do it for the life of me, and you explain things so well! Plus I love your bird! Happy hooping!

  • @dubstepfrenzy There is a really good cat eye tutorial online. You may have already seen it. I was saving this with the intention to do one but then I saw a good one. Have you seen it (or gotten this) already?

  • I wish I could have paid attention to the tricks... I was busy watching the bird...... He's super cool...

  • Oh see! Now you're playing right into his little plan. He wants everyone cuddling birds (or dancing with him) instead of hooping.

  • ive been wanting to do this forever, but couldnt find a tutorial bc I didn't know they were called "isolations"

thankyou!! its gonna take alot of practice... im thinking my hoops too big or my arms are too weak hehe.

and your bird thought you were trying to talk to him haha.

  • I recommend making a very light hoop just for learning isolations. I use a 100 psi, 1/2 inch tubing. Big hoops are too heavy and can actually cause injuries across the chest from trying to force yourself to hold the hoop straight. You could even use a kid's K-Mart hoop for learning and building strength if you don't have a lighter hoop. Good luck! (And, yeah. Mulder is a ham.)
