On April 19, 1951, General Douglas MacArthur appeared before a joint session of Congress to bid farewell after his military service of 52 years. At the close of his address, he referred to an old barracks ballad, "Old Soldiers Never Die (They Just Fade Away)" [as noted at the beginning of this record]. The reaction to MacArthur's speech was such that dozens of recording artists quickly recorded their own versions of "Old Soldiers Never Die"...this was Jimmy Wakely's rendition.
