I think the days of trading for veterans are gone. The Islanders are building their core and John Tavares is a big piece of it. I think you can expect him to stay around for a long time. And he will perform, just give it time.

I'm not saying that John Tavares will be anywhere as good as Mike Bossy, I'm just saying that people had the same kind of comments about him, but they're certainly not saying it now.

i hope you're right. i just get images of ziggy palffy, and lafontaine (trades).. and the dipietro fiasco (injuries on a 1st pick). it's been hard supporting them lately.

That's the same thing that people said about Mike Bossy, and what happened? They taught him defense, and he was one of the greatest forwards ever.
