Folding old newspapers into environmentally friendly biodegradable seedling pots is easy.

- Fold in half 3 times.
- Origami triangle fold.
- Reverse the triangles.
- Fold all 4 wings like a paper airplane.
- Open the pot.

  • I used the Financial Times of London, which is a fairly standard newspaper. Different l/w will just make it a little taller or wider.

If you feel yours is too tall, fill the bottom with biodegradable packing peanuts.

  • that´s useful! I was looking for pot makers, but this one is much much better! DIY! Thanks for sharing

  • Best instructions on youtube! Thanks!!

  • I refer to your video every year! Thanks!

  • These are VERY nice but a little over the top for me. It would take way too long to make the 50 or so I need! Do you have a simpler form, something in between this and the roll-around-a-can method others are doing, which seems too flimsy?

  • Yes you can put the whole thing into the ground but make sure you have every bit of paper covered by soil or it will wick out moisture.. I did an experiment this year. Some broccoli seedlings were started in peat pots and some in paper pots. When I harvested and pulled the plants out of the garden, the peat pots restricted the roots and the peat didn't break down much. The paper pots allowed for a much larger root system and there was no trace left of the paper.

  • cool..but then are you supposed to plant them straight into the ground?

  • What is the l/w on the newspaper you use? I think the size of my newspaper half is a little different and the dimensions are off.
