«Glimpse of hope» - this documentary was filmed for the Swiss Red Cross in the Northern Sahel region of Ghana by Gabriela Neuhaus, a Swiss film-maker and journalist. The film is about the action taken to prevent and cure blindness and eye diseases in this part of Africa. It also shows a cataract operation and the educational campaign on nutrition and hygiene run by the Red Cross in Ghanaian villages. The optimistic commitment made by the Ghanaian ophthalmologist Dr Alex Wryter and the Red Cross volunteers set against the pulsating backdrop of life in Ghana, present a view of Africa which is very different from the commonplace pictures of a continent stricken by war and famine.
