@czevon Bruce also recorded a version as janey needs a shooter but bruce's version is very different, it's slower, there's less synthesizer, the drums are heavier, and it has a sadder sound
This is a great version of this song. Better than the live version. Warren was the most diversified songwriter in rock. He died too young. But he gave us his great music until the end of his life. And then his ashes were thrown out to sea. You will never be forgotten by us Zevonites.
I've loved Warren Z since I was like 14 years old - which was when I first heard "Johnny Strikes Up the Band" - his music has always been a special thing to me since then..........and that was many, many moons ago.................
@Tunnelof Warren wrote most of the song. It was Bruce's title, he asked if he could have it. He then wrote some, went to New Jersery (where Bruce was living at the time) and they finished it together. The ideas Warren came up with were not what Bruce had originally intended but it is a collaborative effort. I know. I was there.
Amen.

Warren Zevon was such an amazing talent. The world is richer for him having been here.

Bruce only suggested the title Crystal Zevon suggested that Warren often tagged on to bigger acts to sell himself. Still a great song.
