Assessing al-Qaeda strength in Afghanistan

US and British forces invaded Afghanistan eight years ago. But despite almost a decade of occupation, Washington is no closer to capturing of killing the man who was the primary objective of the whole war - Osama bin Laden.

Contradictory information concerning his whereabouts make that task seem ever more unlikely. It is not known whether he is even dead of alive.

Al Jazeera Correspondent Zeina Khodr reports from the Afghan capital Kabul on how the question of Al Qaeda's strength has now come to the heart of the debate as to whether more troops are needed or not, and the difficult decisions that now face US president Barack Obama.

There is no such thing as "al Qaeda", there is no one on earth who calls himself a member of "al Qaeda". "al Qaeda" or "terrorist" are terms made up for anyone who is against the establishment. There is no formal organization. There is no secret terrorist network. What there is a is a phantom enemy, a boogyman that is easily sold to citizens. Investigate 9/11. Stop War.
