Not true. Carrying a gun doesn't necessarily decrease the risk--if anything, it may just prolong the inevitable or something worse could happen (like being overpowered and the gun being taken). There are many factors that could also come out negatively from having a gun. It's a fair suggestion to say have a gun (since it COULD save your life) but each factor must be weighed in.

Rape is not rare, the girls just don't tell you about it. In the area that I live in, rape is considered to be incredibly unlikely, and almost never happens. At least officially. Meanwhile, most of the girls I know have been sexually abused, and a couple guys I know have been as well. If you percieve rape as a rare occurence, that doesn't mean you live in a safe area, it means the girls in the area don't trust you. And they are never stupid for getting raped. Ever.
