ANCHOR:
During the Olympics there have been three parks in Beijing for people to hold demonstrations. People just have to get a permit to protest from communist authorities, then they should be good to go. But it hasn't been so easy for everyday Chinese to get this permit, or to make it to Beijing to protest. We bring you the story of one human rights activist from Fujian Province.
STORY:
On Monday Fujian Province human rights activist Sizun Ji submitted a demonstration application to the Beijing Public Security Bureau. He was on the phone with one of NTD's Chinese reporters while he was waiting in line.
[Sizun Ji, Human Rights Activist]: (quote2, male)
"While preparing for the train, some people got caught by police on duty to stop people from going to Beijing. Their tickets to watch the Olympic Games, identification cards, and mobile phones were all confiscated."
He told NTD that he was next up in line and hung up his phone. When our reporter tried to call Sizun back a few minutes his phone was dead... and we haven't heard from him since.
Sizun isn't the only demonstrator targeted. We've received reports of people being stopped by local police from going to Beijing to watch the Olympics.
As soon as we hear from Sizun we will update you on his situation.
