Edit: To be fair, the 10.8% rate hit in Dec. 1982. Reagan took office Jan 1981, and didnt get a chance to write his first budget until Fiscal year 1982, which is Sept 1981. Once Reagan's policies took effect, the UE rate started dropping every month until it was 5.4% when he left office.

Reagan was the best. I was a kid during his Presidency. America was kicking ass back then. We felt like we could do anything. No in the Obama era we feel like hopeless pussies

Revisionists go home you have no place here. If you look at the facts of the 80's you will see that the deficit was in decline from the early years to the later years, while overall revenue to the government more than doubled. The reason was private sector economic output. Gov't creates nothing and spends nothing unless it first takes it from us. I saw the jobs created in the 80's and they were good jobs, livable jobs. By 1984 it was "Morning Again in America." So take a hike get over it.

He is seen as one of the greatest Presidents ever because of the surging economy regardless of the long-term impact to be had with the tripling of the national debt as well as his 'defeating' of the Soviet Union regardless of their financial failings since the 1960s and the social reform of the 1980s.
