American Playhouse: Fool's Fire (1992)
directed by Julie Taymor

Taymor's impossible-to-find version of Edgar Allan Poe's "Hop Frog"

NOTE: No, I do not know where/how to purchase this. To my knowledge this is currently not in print. Somehow I had the foresight to record this back in '92, and that VHS transfer is what you are now watching. Enjoy!

  • This is amazing. This finale - and the end credit scene - have haunted me since I was a child. I saw this on PBS probably 20 years ago. I am so beyond glad to have been able to find it and watch it again. THANK YOU, thank you for uploading it. It has for years been one of those things that "oh I guess it's lost in time"...but it is amazing to be able to watch it again. It's even more creepy than I remembered, and so brilliant now that I can appreciate the wordplay. Thank you, thank you.

Making people happy...it's what I do. LOL

Thanks for the kind words, glad to help.

  • Bless you for posting this video! Where did you find it? No pressure if you don't want to answer my question.

You're very welcome. Please read the video's full description for the answer to your question. I know how hard-to-find this film is, so I figured posting it would be my contribution to society LOL.

  • Wh... goose?

  • I have the Julie Taymor coffee table book, "Playing With Fire" and have always loved the photographs of the various productions; especially Fool's Fire. Today, on a lark, I decided to see if there MIGHT be a video online, or any further info.

I was thrilled to find these videos. For so many reasons, Taymor's creations always stir my imagination and feel more alive, after viewing them. Pure magic!

  • I must have been two when this was released. It's amazing! So glad that I could discover a classic now that I'm an adult :D

  • I taped this in '92 also, I've watched it a hundred times.

  • yaaaay!
