  • this is plain trabeculectomy whereas deep sclerectomy (which was posted in your video) would require another and deeper layer of scleral dissection aside from the routine more anterior dissection.

  • you are right, it is just a plain TRAB. Just read the title which says so.

  • peribulber anesthesia will increase IOP so, Trabeculectomy usually don under general anesthesia...

  • In the asian & south east asian countries nobody does a Trab under GA. Infact if a good peribulbar is given along with a good massage the IOP comes down a bit because of 1. massage 2. relaxation of the extraocular muscles. 3. relaxation of the Orbicularis Oculi muscles. Even in cataract extraction, a peribulbar if combined with hylase will reduce the IOP considerably after ocular massage...

  • Just to confirm for any other readers, Glaucoma is common in Asian and 'Black' ethnic groups (sorry, I hate the word 'black'). And also more common in family history.

  • @ovomed the tittle says PLAIN TRABECULECTOMY!!!!! ugh you are very embarrising

  • very nice sir,

this is a fornix based conjunctival flap. is the limbal based peritomy leads same result sir?

  • Good god...

  • I am curious to know if there are issues with overfiltering post op. This procedure is done under topical lidocaine or marcaine gtts in my hands with no discomfort

  • No CL Monk, glaucoma is common in people of African origin. Asians do not have an higher incidence than the so-called whites, arabic or indian populations.

  • AWFUL SURGERY! Try using a trabeculectomy punch rather than making such a huge hole in the eye! Work on higher magnifications, use adjustable removabe surure etc etc. Look at Prof Khaw's website for the real McCoy!
