DragonStrike

Released: 1990
Published by: Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI)
Developed by: Westwood Studios
Genre: Flight Simulator

DragonStrike is a dragon combat simulator where you guide one of the powerful good dragons of Krynn.

I brought this game back in 1991 and played in on my first PC, an AMD 386/40! It traveled along with me and now runs on my XP-Laptop, thanks to DOSBox!
I played it again from time to time, because of the very entertaining storyline and the fabulous graphics - for it's time! I ever dreamed of a Dragon Strike II, with modern graphics and sounds, but with the same great story-telling capability! I surley never sell this gem!

  • So basically it was Flight Simulator only with Dragons?

  • @ninjakingking Yes, but I would compare it more with Wing Commander, because it also follows a storyline.

  • This real is deserving of a modern remake. Can you imagine pulling off some awesome killer Gs. Banking over for a dive, wings tucked in, running an enemy dragon flight with a 20 foot long lance.

LAIR had the right idea but just wasn't executed, but maybe someone will take another attempt as this sorta game in the future.

Oh yes, THIS would be a great game. Dragon Strike II ...

  • It's amazing that after all these years, this is STILL the greatest Dragon Flight simulator ever created.

  • Some games are great, some games will never die, and some games are ment to stay the way they were created. Happens the same with movies. Most of the times, great storys of the past fall in the hands of trully clueless people... and that's when the shit hits the fan..... I think it's better for this game to stay this way forever.

For god memory's sake, let it stay like this forever.

  • I would love to see a remake. I played this game to the end.. one of the few PC games that I did.

  • I had this game back then, I didnt enjoy it a great deal, but at least it was possible to fly on a Dragon and attack.

I was hoping Skyrim all these years later would at least have given us the opportunity to do this too.

  • @cygnetomega

Playability is actually high compared to your average 'press red butan to fight' xbox game.

And sure the UI is primative, but it's not poorly designed.

  • One of the oldest PC games i can remember and i really would love to see a sequel.

  • @TrueMrReset - the user interface and playability make it poorly designed. The concept and idea behind it is very nice though.

  • @cygnetomega

"poorly designed game"??? You never played DragonStrike, right?

  • @fahbs they could make a mere app of this now, but seems they don't think it's worth the effort either ! Faux English feel about the whole DL series anyway. Won't be missing this poorly designed game.

  • I would die for a dragon sim

you make your dragon and its powers (ice,fire,dark-fire?)

and you have to find a nest WHEREVER you want it

the land is randomly generated.. so you might come across a cave ontop of a mountain (perfect spot for a dragon)

you can freely travel the land seeing humans and farmers and castles

you can choose to swop down and pick up sheep to eat or bring to your babys

you can find anouther dragon to mate with xD

    ENDLESS FUN!
