I grew up in Australia as a kid with this on the TV and a pack of dirty-minded kids for friends... my last name was bastardised into "wanker" and that was just a mild version of twisted names we came up for each other... and I have never in my years of tending bars have I heard of a "pugwash" being a euphemism for a bj. If people want creative terms, they ought to go trawl Urban Dictionary.

No it isn't. I have lived in Australia since I was a small child, and I have NEVER heard this supposed "Australian slang word". Neither has anyone else I know. There was NO "Seaman Staines", "Master Bates" or "Roger the cabin boy" in Captain Pugwash...not EVER. The names were NOT changed because they were rude...the names were never rude to begin with. It's all an urban myth...

@raggyelf Oh, for God's sake! Not THIS old chestnut again. There never were any characters with these names in Captain Pugwash...it was a silly newspaper myth started by The Guardian, for which they later had to print a retraction and apologise to John Ryan, the creator of Pugwash. The cabin boy's name was Tom, not Roger. And there was NEVER a character called Seaman Staines, or anything that sounded remotely like it...the show seemed innocent because it WAS innocent.
