  • bravo bravissimo figaro

  • How easily he sings. No "forza". I didn't hear so much Figaros(I'm not a big Rossini fan) but he sounds very good for it.

  • Lose the guitar.

  • @brentanoleader IMO the style of singing changed, away from the very relaxed, unemotional in-the-mask style that people like Maurel, Escalais and the early Battistini employ in their records to the more outgoing and.. fun singing of Caruso, Ruffo, Stracciari, Danise and the other great singers of the 1910s and 1920s.

Seems like De Luca somehow didn't get on board and continued to sing the old way, like here. Not my thing at all.

  • @brentanoleader listen to Battistini's 1902 Mozart recordings- I'm not sure I wouldn't actually boo if a modern opera singer convincingly lip-synched to Battistini, if you know what I mean. The style is horrible, especially in Fin'ch han dal vino. Yet, some of Battistini's 1910s recordings show a very good baritone on par with my favorite Stracciari. What happened?

  • @brentanoleader Unless your point is that sloppy, uninteresting singing and wooden, overexaggerated acting is the spirit of 'Largo al Factotum' I don't see it. I think my problem with this is that it's done basically in the style of the 1900's. Having listened to lots more of the old cylinder recordings since my last comment here, while I recognize that singers back then had glorious raw voices, I just dislike the style- strongly. to be ctnd.

  • @piasecznik interesting comment- not understanding that the spirit of the piece being portrayed is the most important element ("i don't really see what you like about this") - is probably one of opera's biggest problems today.

  • Bravo bravissimoooo!!!

  • It sounds like tenor singing!baritone should be a baritone! not interesting for me!

  • amo questa interpretazione.

    bravo, bravissimo.

  • people always think that the oldest things are better than actually others,., I´m agreed with you, I heard lot of failure in the entonation, and imperfection in coloratura, but, the man does history with this performance, and there`s nothing that we can do to avoid it
