Condor Ave - Elliott Smith - Lyrics
she took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
and she locked the car and slipped past
into rhythmic quietude
lights burning
voice dry and hoarse
i threw the screen door like a bastard back and forth
the chimes fell over each other
i fell onto my knees
the sound of the car driving off made me feel diseased
a sick shouting like you hear at the fairground
now i'm picking up to put away anything of your's that's still around
i don't know what to do with your clothes or your letters
it'll make a whisper out of you
she took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
the fairground's lit
a drunk man sits by the gate she's driving through
got his hat tipped bottle back in between his teeth
looks like he's buried in the sand at the beach
i can't think about you driving off to leave barely awake
to take a little nap while the road is straight
i wish that car had never been discovered
they took away the bottle and the hat he was under
that's the one thing that he could never do
and it'll make a whisper out of you
she took the oldsmobile out past condor ave
cops were running around the scene
looking for some kind of clue
they never get uptight when a moth gets crushed
unless a light bulb really loved him very much
i'm lying down
blowing smoke from my cigarette
little whisper smoke signs that you'll never get
you're in your oldsmobile driving by the moon
headlights burning bright ahead of you
and someone's burning out, out on condor ave
trying to make a whisper out of you
what a shitty thing to say
did you really mean it?
you never said a word to me about what passed between us
so now i'm leaving you alone
you can do whatever the hell you want to

  • Damn he was depressed! Look at 0:54

  • @SuperOzzilla he just liked to look tough in his pictures....I think I read that in Autumn de Wildes book

  • it sort of annoys me in a way that i ever listened to elliott because nothing else comes even close to how great he is.

  • Being a musician - even a poor excuse for one that nobody will likely hear - I find myself considering the inescapable disquiet born of knowing that this was a person who dreamed, and thought, and created, and destroyed, as all people do; that, though hopefully under quite different circumstances someone will be able to say of me one day, he was here, and now he is no more.

    And yet, the song remains.

  • There is something inexplicably perfect about Elliott's music. It makes me never want to listen to anything other artist ever again; and when I do, I inevitably end up on my Elliott Smith playlist because nothing else measures up to his genius. He's the only artist I can listen to that makes me sad, happy, hopeful and depressed all at once.

  • @unholychunk True. Nothing is eternal. Although, that's probably as it should be.

  • @Vamphaery and will remain until we are wiped out. then it and everything shall be no more for good. bummer.

  • We miss you Elliott!! You are great|

  • @HawthornxxVideos i was basically saying that even his weakest songs, or songs he say are weak, are masterpieces and its frusturating to know that there really wont ever be another musician like him

  • @peacelovemusic2461 Were you extremely tired when you wrote this? It's just barely understandable.

  • i too find myself frusturated by elliott smith, however my frusturation comes from knowing i will never be able to put things like he could, i mean honestly he doesnt have one bad lyric, he felt as though the song i figured you out was a badly written song yet any artist today woud have trouble writing a song as well as that, and yet songs like condor ave, abused, last call, tomorrow tomorrow, the enemy is you, kings crossing, alameda, stickman, and true love, are even better written
