I'm curious as to why the jib is so high?

That is probably because I am very definitely not an expert at rigging a mirror. :-)

My Dad built a mirror around 1970 and his sail number was 32180. Always sailed up in Killbear Provincial Park. Great memories. Thanks

If you tie the jib sheets together you can always get hold of them without reaching across the boat. Also, if you want you can face forward when tacking; I find this better.
