How different would be mythology and religion if the Earth had rings? Our understanding of the universe would have been completely different!

And I think there would be a shadow, based on pictures we have of Saturn. Albeit one would be able to see the Sun through the rings. Winters might be colder since during the shorter days of winter there would be daily eclipses of the the ring!. And I'd love to see some simulations or depictions of that from a earth-side vantage point!
Thanks for the video!

What an exciting idea. One thing I think that was avoided, but could be a beautiful vision, would be the Earth's shadow on the rings from a night-time location on Earth. Would there be a time during the night one could see both sides of the-Earths shadow on the rings? The penumbra and the umbras could make gorgeous colors, I imagine. Like a trillion moons going through a eclipse of the earth every night.

i think something is missing: from the calculations: wouldn't the much smaller difference earth has from it's moon create a tide in the ring? the ring should be further away and spread thinner towards Luna rather then perfectly round IMHO.

Well, you would not have gaps like Saturn's rings. The perturbations of Earth's single moon would probably distribute the particles pretty evenly, causing them occasionally to fall in earth's atmosphere (but burn up as meteors). Like you say, the outer edge would probably not be so sharply defined. Launching anything into orbit would be a PITA.

It would have been interesting to see a view of the dark side of the rings, or from within the ring shadow.

This would be truly amazing if earth had rings..........except that there would be a shadow around the equator because the rings would block the sunlight meaning the rain forests near the equator would be non exsisting along with any life that needs sun near the equator, also earth would be constantly bombarded by ice, rocks and all random size, it would be constant so tsunami wave would be way more common but it would look amazing would`nt it :D

@graystripe69 Given that the rings are estimated to be about ten meters thick, and made up of ice particles one meter in diameter, there would be no shadow, and the number of particles reaching the surface would be around zero.
