Many are interested in my biography. As I read in a newspaper, there are unserious people in the U.S.A., distant relatives of the Gagarin princes, who consider that I am some kind of hereditary relation to them. Well, I have to disappoint them. I'm a simple Soviet person. I was born on March 9, 1934 to a collective farm family. Place of birth: Smolensk oblast, Gzhanski rayon, village of Klushino. In my genealogy there are no princes and I don't know and never heard of any notables. My parents were poor peasants before the Revolution. The older generation, grandfather and grandmother were also poor peasants.

  • Gagarin lepo govori o sebi.

Milina je slušati govor prvog kosmonauta.

  • I guess that's serbo-croatian. Google tells me that means:

    "Gagarin speaks nicely of himself.

Pleased to listen to the speech of the first spaceman. "

    Hvala za vaš komentar

  • man, why does he always use the word "soviet".. translation is good!

  • Thank you! This was short and not too difficult. I had a much harder time with a longer speech I linked here.

    There's a whole phrase I just can't understand.

It's interesting that you ask why he says "soviet." I thought it would be obvious. It's hard to answer in one of these little boxes! I think he felt a loyalty to the CCCP and to "communism," and wanted to stress that in the Soviet Union the son of poor peasants could become the first human in space.
