Rohtang Pass is located 13,500 feet above sea level, but has been shut down after it received a spell of early and unexpected snowfall on Thursday.

It continued to snow through Friday covering the famous tourist spot in a foot high white sheet.

Snow has also fallen on higher reaches of the entire state.

Rohtang Pass is one of the highest drivable roads in the world. Its the region's only link to the valley of Lahaul-Spiti and runs close to the India-Tibet border across Himalayan heights.

The treacherous Rohtang Pass literally means the "mound of dead," because of the extreme conditions, which has claimed countless lives over the years.

The weather changes unpredictably, and temperatures dip to as low as minus 40 degrees Celcius.

  • 13,500 feet above sea level so it would snow at that hight the weather has not gone crazy so yeah and on the land it could be warm but 13,500 feet up it could be really cold

  • HAARP?

  • earths weather HAS gone crazy. Here in southwest Michigan, USA it is rather normal and steady.

I see that in many countries this time of year, it's either flooding, snowing, or drought at the wrong time of year. Australia has hottest winter on record now. Amazing.

  • Earth's weather has gone crazy.

  • wth!
