Republicans Desecrate Bible To Mirror Own Ideology

Rachel Maddow exposes a conservative groups attempt to make the bible in their own image, literally !? It's called " the Conservative Bible Project", which seeks to edit out the more , "liberal" passages in the bible, according to a group of conservatives . I'm a liberal christian . My personal beliefs are my own .I don't debate anyone on what they believe .I respect anyone's right to believe what ever they want .I only mention theological issues when civil liberties are involved . I'm a strong supporter of the separation between church and state .If that erodes we are in serious danger of becoming a theocracy like allot of right wing christians want .Even though this is not so much a civil liberties issue .It still shows yet another example that the far right party has gone too far .For a follow up to this story, click on link below.....

They're removing the bit (where Jesus rebukes people who want to stone to death the "woman taken in adultery" (somehow, strangely enough, the man was overlooked), and says "Let he that is without sin cast the first stone" -- and the would be killers slunk away. (John, Chapter 8, 3-5). Much too liberal a Parable for the American Taliban, obviously.

Is it just me, or does it strike anyone else as a little weird that these twits seem to think they alone posess superior knowledge as to what the meaning of these BRONZE AGE texts actually are (as opposed to some other interpretations of the VERY SAME text - which they invariably claim as evidence of the influence of Satan)?

It had some topical and profound subject matter. I loved those books too. I wish TV was more like that now - less skin and more attention to social issues. They used to cover incest, disability, and religious tolerance better than we do today.

They probably would ban it now, Hollywood; but I'm glad you mentioned Little House. I used to love watching that show and I also loved reading all of Laura Ingall's books when I was younger--nice memories :)

They claim they don't want to 'dumb down' the Bible, but that's exactly what they'll be doing when they change "scribes"

to "intellectuals." Conservative Christians already think that too much learing is "weariness to the mind"; now, they'll have a religious excuse to discourage an intellectual mind-set in their followers. These people on the far-right 'are' truly deranged--like a snake eating its own tail...
