The reinforcement ribs are spaced with one on the outside of each magnet then one centered in the other direction. The one with 6 ribs follows the same concept. Maybe they thought the added weight in that area made it a weak spot. Are these flywheels balanced?

Hi Sam, just a thought about those "reinforcements" and how they differ.
Are they perhaps there to weight the flywheel and balance it to make it run true?
That's why they're never the same on every flywheel? Just a ponder? What do you think? I'm sure you know....... Nothing about a Maytag could confuse you I'm sure.

Nearly there now. I'm finding this series really useful and entertaining. Although I don't have a Maytag, I do have several air cooled engines to restore and I'm picking up a lot of useful tips. Thank you Sam (again).
