,,What is the answer?,, ponder the question,, move on, old school file work, work it down with a file, eisemann 72-D flywheel clean up, work out deep hammer marks with a course file, followed with one with fine cut teeth, side trip, v-belt pully explained, D shaped hole, two piece, spot welded together, leave a comment, yes, the comments, seems that a lot of maytag multi-motor owners don't like the gas tank part #S-306, the one with bottom mounting holes, even to the point of buying and installing a gas tank bottom with mounting ears made like little feet,, once you do this, then the words original or restored does not apply, I do oppose this practice as when you miss match parts you change the year model design, yes the engine matched the washing machine model that it was under, i'm just saying if possible use the correct gas tank for your engine, the type that came with it when new is a good choice, if it's a hanging model, hang-er up,,, follow along and see what can be done with these undesirable little cast iron pieces of history, might as well build a cart to haul it on, what?, just gettin'-er done here on the east coast of Arkansas,, two corn dogs, no mustard, large iced tea, sweet please,, life is good!, subscribe, pass it on,,, Oh! the engine it's an old fifty dollar antique, vintage1937 Maytag, twin cylinder, model 72-D, wringer washing machine engine, multi-motor, 5/8 H.P., opposed pistons, kick start, air cooled, magneto ignition, made in the U.S.A., Newton, Iowa, to be continued,, next, "average plane of levelness"

  • Get Back Dog....Get Back......I can already smell the Green paint in the air....This engine rebuild is proof of your pride, patience, and meticulous attention to detail.....You my friend are an inspiration to lots of folks that simply don't have the "God Given Talent" that you possess. Everyone take note cause your not going to learn this level of perfection at any university or textbook.

  • Nearly there now. I'm finding this series really useful and entertaining. Although I don't have a Maytag, I do have several air cooled engines to restore and I'm picking up a lot of useful tips. Thank you Sam (again).

  • The reinforcement ribs are spaced with one on the outside of each magnet then one centered in the other direction. The one with 6 ribs follows the same concept. Maybe they thought the added weight in that area made it a weak spot. Are these flywheels balanced?

  • Hi Sam, just a thought about those "reinforcements" and how they differ.

Are they perhaps there to weight the flywheel and balance it to make it run true?

That's why they're never the same on every flywheel? Just a ponder? What do you think? I'm sure you know....... Nothing about a Maytag could confuse you I'm sure.

    Take it easy. K
