  • The cables are jumping overhead. Where's the ground current going? Probably back to the distribution board. I don't believe this is the way to contain the DC plant and is a reaction to concern in the marketplace over lack of containment by these transformerless systems.

  • @Metal1412 Thank you for your interest. The fault current generated in this video is actually sourced from the utility, not the battery. The intention of a ground or protective earth connection is to provide a controlled path for fault current, and it functioned as intended. Note that, in a typical power lab environment, such as in this video, no ground fault protection was in place on the upstream feeder.

  • The UPS displayed the ability to perform a controlled transfer to bypass followed by an orderly shutdown, without clearing fuses, and without damage to the UPS. (Had the UPS been a part of a multi-module parallel system, it would have isolated itself from the critical bus, and the other UPS modules would remain online). Isolation transformers are not required for the UPS to exhibit this capability; in fact they would slow down the UPS's ability to react quickly in the event of a DC fault.

  • Now, in a non-lab environment, with proper breaker coordination, ground fault current can, and should be contained/limited through a number of other devices.

  • Ground faults between the source and the load....Different story. Just talking about the DC portion of the UPS.

  • I had a Eaton UPS dump the load because someone plugged in a space heater. The UPS was 80% loaded went into overload and shut down emminent load drop-Why not just transfer to static bypass?

  • Ground faults in UPS's are commonly gradual from a Defective battery and manifest over time...I can appreciate the 9395 transfer to bypass but not the controlled shutdown Do you mean Shutdown IE load off? Just stay in static bypass..

  • Ground Faults typically blow 1 of the 2 DC Buss fuses Control or Charger board damage--
