I remember that, he scratched his butt on the air and told the kids "If it itches, scratch it." I was a tiny kid back then but I still itch it when I need to. ;)

'Talk to Dorothy' day was usually good, where the viewers could call in during the noon news. Joel Rose was usually there with her pushing the phone buttons. It would usually air on Thursdays if I remember correctly.

I am disappointed to hear that Gib Shanley died. Like Johno, another loss of someone I admired in my boyhood. RIP Gib!

I remember when my aunt and uncle lived next door to Gib Shanley in North Royalton. I used to run up and down the hill in their back yard and Gib's 2 dogs would watch me through the tall wooden fence, following me as I did.

I remember Gib Shanley doing the Browns games when I was a young kid in the late 70's and early 80's. Although I think that Nev Chandler is the true and the best voice the Cleveland Browns ever had, I think that Gib Shanley should be recognized as the opriginal voice of the Cleveland Browns.

I came looking for footage of Gib's Greatest Thing he ever did in 1979. His Public Statement and then Burned an Iranian Flag on the Air.
He was a great guy and a great American.

it's like anchorman lol

I met him once. He was a nice guy, and one of my fave sportscasters. I remember seeing him when he burned up that Iranian flag on live TV. I was cracking up with laughter, but he had guts! He will sorely be missed....RIP Gib.

I interned at WTRF in Wheeling, and one day came across all those old photos with Gib in them ...

My condoleneces go out to his family. I used to watch him on cable in Columbus, when he worked for WUAB channel 43 (up in Cleveland, of course). He was a great sportscaster and will be missed.
Most of what I still have is up there, sad to say...I'm sure there are other collections out there --after all, I collected these in less than a year!
