Look at the curved ends. Those are superheater elements. Kb968 was steamed sometime after arrival at Ferrymead but once? Or did it run several times. I think it was steamed at Weka Pass once but in siding but not to full pressure. Hope Mainline Steam can get it running soon.
I've reflued boilers and those tubes look as if they are second hand. New tubes are very well oiled and black. The last boiler that I reflued was a 70hp Case Traction Engine and being a traditionalist I rolled the tube ends.

Definatly looks like he is re-tubing that boiler, also those tubes definatly look second hand
