Jason Kingsley (at left) and Tobias Capwell (at right) smash it up at the Tower of London, September 2nd, 2007.

This was part of the "Tournament at the Tower" in which Armourer-Jouster and Historic Enterprises co-owner Jeffrey Hedgecock participated, but unfortunately was only able to participate in the first show, due to a hand injury sustained in a hard strike on Order of the Crescent team-mate Steve Mallet, in his third course.

The jousting at the Tower was the most intense yet seen in England, featuring a 40 metre long 6 foot high solid planked tilt, the first ever used in a major modern jousting event. Several jousters sustained light injuries due to the force of impacts caused by the speed of the horses and near direct angle of the lance strikes.

Other jousters participating included Graham Turner, Philippe Willaume, Sean George and Mark Griffin.

  • Have they a website. thanx

  • The event is organized by Griffin Historical, south of London. Google them for their website.

I'm informed there will NOT be a joust at the Tower this August, but there are rumblings about something at Hampton Court the bank holiday weekend.

  • NO WAY!! We are all professional plate armour jousters and the event was put on by Historic Royal Palaces and produced by Griffin Historical. Most of the jousters compete regularly at the Royal Armouries Leeds, others are from the group Destrier. I suggest reading the caption for the video.

  • Superb. There's some real fear factor in seeing an armoured knight charging toward you. I'm sure even in medieval times the armour gave far more than just protection.

  • @thekswervedirt Only one of the saddles is authentic; the guy wearing black armour on the white horse. The saddle has a high pommel and cantle to keep the rider in the saddle when he charges with a lance.

  • @StormchaserKnight Are those saddles designed to not allow the rider to fall off the horse? If so, is this a safety measure or authentic from the times?

  • @bookercreator holy shit your right its like a gulf turf, its so clean and perfect!

  • That sew bald cob is lovely :)

  • Can anybody tell me a place where grass is that green and clean in america?

  • This is super nice.

  • Loving the medieval styled saddle of Capwell. He looks a lot sturdier in his saddle than modern ones

  • We will be repeating this show with riders from three different countries at Hampton Court Palace the last weekend in May 2010. Three shows a day Sat-Mon inclusive
