@CaptainSpanky96 Do online research of gambling establishments in northern KY...look at Wilder/Campbell County historical records. If you dig deep enough, you'll find the stories told on ghost shows, and in the song itself do not match up with historical records. Local legends, Mackey's ballad, and publicity from the media have distorted the true story...and all to Mackey's financial gain. And Ghost Adventures are a bunch of clowns - Larry Moe & Curley - not credible historians.
@alternatehistories actually if you would watch ghost adventures you would see that there is records on johanna this song was made about the legend not vice versa
A very beautiful rendition of the song. I might add that this song has created a legend...which isn't supported by available historical documents. Yes, there was a Latin Quarter nightclub but it wasn't in the 30's...more like the 40's and 50's. I could find no record of a the owner having a daughter named Johanna, her death, or the murder of her lover. More than likely, the facts got twisted over the years. I'd walk alone thru that place at 3am...nothing scary in there...no ghosts or daemons;)
I live in Cincinnati and was never into country music. I've always been interested in the paranormal, and was shocked watching a show( ghost adventures) based on Bobby Mackey's. My friend and I visited Mr. Mackeys music world and literally forgot about everything we saw on t.v. If you have a chance to visit this wonderful atmosphere, take advantage. Bobby Mackey literally introduced me to REAL country music in a whole new light
