Here we have a truly overlooked game.

This game has hardly any variety, ear grating music, lousy controls, horrendous AI, and is plagued by weird glitches. It's filled with cheap hits and bad design decisions.

Well, what does this game have going for it, you might ask? Well I would respond by saying it is a game about Justice. With Cyborgs. This Justice is about cutting, melting and battering your enemies before ripping off their arm, beating them with it, breaking them into bits, putting them back together again, piledriving them, tearing them in half, eating the torso, then picking up their legs and throwing them into a pit. Clearly there is no brand of Justice better than Cyborg Justice.

That's all well and good you say "but, is there any real reason to play it?". Yes, but the answer doesn't lie in single player mode - this game needs two players to be enjoyable, but once you get two people in the mindset to dispense Cyborg levels of Justice, this shiny turd becomes a bar of pure gold. There's tons of moves, combinations, combos, body parts and having another person just makes all the variation that much more interesting. This game is the definition of fun. A high concept game poorly executed that transcends itself, it's genre, even it's platform to provide endless amounts of satisfaction long after the first successful torso rip.

It's fairly hard to explain why this game is so great. Much like Brute Force (shown at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5zvwUcnYko ) it needs to be experienced to be appreciated. If life's got you down, if you've been kicked around, if you're mad as hell and not going to take it anymore and you want Justice, make your Justice the cyborg kind.

Cyborg Justice.

  • Something tells me there's probably some third-party project out there dedicated to revamping the game.

  • If this is a hint or foreshadowing of an upcoming release you know about, please clue me in.

The recent Real Steel game is the closest thing so far.

  • I really have the urge to dispense some cyborg justice over MAMEHub, but

    1.I suck, and 2.There aren't many people.

  • Hell, I'll play. There's really no way to be good at the game, it's just big stupid fun.

I'll see what I can do about populating Mamehub today.

  • I agree, but is General Choas on the list? That game was a ton-o-fun and hardly anybody has played it!

  • I considered it, but it really is overwhelmingly popular to be listed for this series.

I don't really even think this belongs here.

  • This game is one of those concepts that needs to be revisited. It has not survived the test of time (though it remains one of my favorite Genesis games), but could you imagine if this game were made today? Better AI, a better tutorial for the controls (which are really amazing once you master them, improvable as they are), and the lack of graphical limitations (which I bet is the reason you don't see more than 2 in a wave at any given time)? A modern day incarnation of this would be sweeeeeeet.

  • So far, this is the only game I've played in the Criminal series. And this is the exact memory I have from playing it as a kid - none of my friends would, because of that first jump.

Lousy controls, absolutely. But when you got it to work, it was awesome.

  • FUCK YEAH TANK LEGS!

  • The music's not all that bad. It could be a little bit better but I don't think it's horrible.

  • @BigBangBlitz It's just a guess. Given this games potential and it's execution, there's bound to be some group of people out there that want to give it the "justice" it deserves. I don't know if that responsibilty should be in the hands of Appaloosa (the company that made this game) considering that even their latest game (some Jaws game) has glitches as well.

P.S. I just now googled "Cyborg Justice Remake" and didn't find much other than people talking about how there should be a remake

  • @AesculapiusPiranha I kinda liked that there was no tutorial for this. You get to discover all these cool moves by playing with friends.

I always remember those "how did I do that?" moments.

  • holy shit i used to play this game all the time...

  • Nothing more satisfying then disarming an enemy then seperating their body from their legs.
