Believe it or not, I'm a HUGE Puccini fan! (My minor in school is Opera). So you bet I was pretty excited to score this collection.

For those that want to know here is the information straight off amazon:
In anticipation of the 150th anniversary (December 12, 2008) of the birth of opera's most beloved composer - Giacomo Puccini - Sony BMG Masterworks has created the most definitive available collection of his operas in the exclusive, 20-disc PUCCINI: THE COMPLETE OPERAS. All twelve of his operas are presented in acclaimed complete recordings - La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Le Villi, Edgar, Manon Lescaut, La Fanciulla del West, La Rondine and Il Trittico (including Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi), featuring performances by such vocal legends as Plácido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé, Leontyne Price, Barbara Frittoli, Renata Scotto, Tito Gobbi, Carlo Bergonzi, Sherrill Milnes, Anna Moffo, Marilyn Horne and Ileana Cotrubas, in classic interpretations conducted by Sir Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta.

  • My friend, can you answer me a question? Is there any translation in this booklet? Or is it everything in Italian? I mean, do the libretto are followed by a translation to the lyrics? Thank you very much. I'm very interested in buying the Puccini collection, but I'm still not certain which one to buy!

  • Manon Lescout....

  • La Boheme is my favorite also. ;)

  • This is a fine set, but then again there's EMI's 17 CD set, and two Decca sets, one from the earlier LP era and one from the later. All are value priced, even screaming deals if you shop around, so none is a mistake. But I don't know how one would decide which is the "best" either, and I bet a lot of folks like me who are more casual opera fans don't want to end up with a zillion cds of Puccini no matter how cheap.

  • Dear Jearseygirl003, you made a great mistake. I'm also a huge Puccini fan, but I will NOT buy this album. You' ve bought this box set, and if you want to have got other versions of tabarro, Schicchi or suor Angelica, you must buy these same recording again in complete album. In my opinion better way is to buy all, but in different albums.
