This can best be described as a dismal attempt to capture a departure from Liverpool Lime Street and is nothing more than a record of the event.

46115 (6115) Scots Guardsman on the Yorkshire Scot (Liverpool Lime Street - St Helens - Eccles - Manchester Victoria - Rochdale - Brighouse - Leeds - York and return) on Sunday 6th September 2009.

First there are three photographs:-

1 The headboard: ST. HELENS GIRL GUIDING EXPRESS. The trip was organised to celebrate 100 years of the Guiding movement. {On the first Saturday in September 1909 a few groups of determined girls 'gatecrashed' the first Boy Scout Rally at Crystal Palace in London and demanded 'something for the girls'. Just months later the Guide movement was formed - From the Girl Guiding website.}

2 The temporary name plate similar to that fitted to 46168 (6168) The Girl Guide (though 46115's number has not been changed).

3 The loco and train at Liverpool Lime Street.

Guardsman has clearly come to a stand at a "dead spot" and has to be set back a few feet.

After the video there is photo of West Coast's Class 47 47245 leaving Liverpool Lime Street after 46115 has departed. Earlier 47245 had dragged 46115 and the empty coaching stock backwards into the station.

  • brilliant, especiall seeing the reverser whizz up and down to get the pistons moving and the train backing up a bit to start, and the beaming faces of the onlookers as they walked away, and the amusing woman waffling to someone whilst twiddling with her mobile phone, reality TV at its best mate.great, full marks.

  • Fascinating to watch the valve gear in action. The lady unnecessarily said sorry as she passed by near the end. That's all part of live action to me. Chris

  • Thanks EM - it made a change despite my frustration. Chris

  • Brilliant, really enjoyed this. Made the ground shake, nice to see Mr Seymour doing his stuff. A really unique shot very well done.................................Matt

  • Thanks Matt - sounds like the crew really made her buzz - especially on the return leg. I needed something different. Chris

  • Absolutely brilliant piece of filming Chris, to get a side on shot and almost undisrupted departure with all those people around deserves a round of applause excellent work...5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob - a fair bit of editing I have to admit but I think people seldom spoil a shot. Chris

  • I must have done - I would've said hello to you (albeit a quick one) if I'd known you would be there. Ah well! Thanks.

  • Thanks Lou. The slip was soon under control and the safety valves lifting did tend to spoil the sound of the exhaust. I think I'm going a bit deaf with age so it didn't worry me at the time! Chris

  • Thanks Mike - I've explained in other replies why I was disappointed with my effort (it wasn't the people - I think they nearly always add a touch of life/reality to a shot). I was trying for something different from my usual shots. Chris

  • Thank you too (another) David. It's nice when the folk running the big railway are able to play ball like that. Shame you missed her though. Chris

  • Thank you David - you must have walked past me to get the first shot in your video - small world. Chris
