I shot this footage while working on my first Amish Feature Documentry, Welcome to Amish America. When an Amish lady jokingly asked me for $50 for taking her picture. Since that time I have won many awards for my Amish programs. These programs are copyrighted and available for sale at amishvideo.com

  • I doubt she was joking. She was probably fed up being asked for pictures and being filmed without permission.

  • @Imogen1885

No she was joking with us. She stopped her buggy and talked with us for about a half hour. She said she asked us for money for taking her picture just to see what our reaction would be. That would be the last thing we would expect her to say. That is how the Amish sometimes joke with people.

  • I was hired by an Author who had Amish friends to produce this video. He knew the Amish from his work with them. We were invited to be there.

  • They should be left alone in their daily buisness.

Last few years I have noticed the growing Menonite colonies in Northern Ontario.

New and old order both are good people.

Don't stare, be polite and they will engage to some degree with the outside world.

You never get trouble with them as neighbors. On the contrary if you are in trouble or need help they follow the rules of their religion and give help and suport to their neighbors but like all neighbors it works both ways

  • @northerbrewer

Because of my films I've been asked by representatives of National Geographic to find a way so that they can film an Amish wedding. I have no idea how I could help them with that. All of my contacts tell me its not possible.

  • @jes61356

Good luck with that. Maybe if you talk to some of the colony elders they may be willing to discuss that but I highly doubt it.

  • There is not much chance that they would permit that. I tried to tell the Reps of National Geographic who wants to film this that. They are not having any luck finding anyone who will allow their Amish wedding to be filmed.

  • not to be mean every1 i think amish is just bull shit

  • Amish people are weird.. Why live in the past

  • @123VivaDjazair I´m not saying they´re the only ones, but they´re even known for it where I live, and that´s far from the US. They´ve huge puppy mills with cages on top of eachother. Dogs have to pee and poop on top of the other. It´s disgusting, it´s abuse and it´s beyond me why this isn´t forbidden. Also for a group of people who claim to be so ´good and loving´ this is a weird way to deal with ´god´s´ creatures. Their god, I´m an atheist.

  • @Saartje05

I love animals and I wouldn't tolerate any cruelty towards them but let's be serious here, are you suggesting that puppy mills are typical Amish activity?

I am not saying that there aren't some unscrupulous individuals amongst them who do that sort of thing but we must be balanced in our judgment of others and we can't condemn the majority for the acts of a minority.

  • @123VivaDjazair You may look up 'Amish puppy mills' and then think about what you said again.

  • @123VivaDjazair I gave me the right. It´s that simple. If they think they have the right to abuse animals (and yes, they do, they're known for their horrible puppy mills) then I have the right to say something about them. And I judge if I want to.

  • @anastaisa100

What made you say a nasty thing like that? and why do you think that The Amish don't care about their animals?

Have you ever seen malnourished or neglected Amish animals? or perhaps to you animals shouldn't do any work?

Has it occurred to you that Animals like Humans are actually happier and healthier when they are doing physical work?

I'm sorry it's you that I find abnormal and not a community like the Amish who enjoy a style of living that is simple but rewarding and joyful

  • @Saartje05

It's because of your way of thinking that peace is often difficult to achieve on this earth.

Why should the year 2011 dictate to any of us how we should lead our lives? and what who gave you the right to judge others on their external appearance?

  • @Bibliophilos Staggering the ignorance we see huh? Wait til the "Made in China" life these twats live comes crashing down, they won't even know how to boil water.

  • Saartje05 said: "They look ridiculous."

What business is it of yours? They are living quietly according to their beliefs and not bothering you. For you to dictate how they should live and dress is as ridiculous as them telling you how to live and dress.

Leave them alone. If you want to go after someone to change lifestyles, find a corrupt politician or criminal or other person who is actively harming others. It would be a better use of your time than bad-mouthing Amish people.
