My backyard garden bitter melon plants (AKA bitter gourd) are thriving, loving the summer heat. Plant grows vigorously in the summer with beautiful green leaves. Plant grows best vertically, with trellis support for plant to climb. Plant begins to flower within 65 days and all through the season. Fruits are about 6-10 inches long. Best in stir fry with beef. As the name suggests--it tastes bitter.

  • I wan to grow some bitter melon. Do you sell the seeds ? and how many days it will give fruits.

I love bitter melon, but I live in small city of Wyoming, and there are not Asian market.

    Thanks for nice video

  • @WYCHIX5 Thank you for watching. No, I don't sell seeds. However, you can find seeds on many online retailers. From my experience, it usually takes about 65-80 days for the vine to produce fruits. It also dependent on the climate. The plant will continue to produce fruits through the season as long as the weather is right. Bitter melon is well suited for warm climate. My plants are beginning to climb, no fruit yet.

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden, min. 6-8 hrs of sun light.

Plant the seed directly on the ground about 1inch deep, about 12 inches apart if you have space. Be sure to sow the seeds only after all frost have past. The seeds will germinate w/in 7-10 days in hot climate. Once seeds germinated add plenty of organic compost (no chemical fertilizer). You also need to erect a trellis for the vine to climb. Hope this help. Good luck.
