Intellectual property (IP) are legal property rights over creations of the mind, both artistic and commercial, and the corresponding fields of law.[1] Under intellectual property law, owners are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works; ideas, discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs.

Where as these items are often intangible Can you really put a price on this knowledge?

As an Artist I know many base ideas are not original, in fact it is usually only in the presenting that originality occurs. So I wonder Can you really have Ownership of Intellectual Property?

If not what are we paying for? What exactly are the customers of Intellectual Property getting for their dollar?

I debate.

  • Am I missing something from your video?Intellectual property has to do with PATENT LAW. Someone with Intellectual Property who has the patent rights can profit from the invention. You don't sell intellectual property to individuals you sell them to companies. The companies then have the rights to use your patent for profit by manufacturing and selling the item.

  • You are right. However, I am not speaking of the intellectual property you patent, but rather that which you pay for yet can be obtained for free.

IE. you I am sure you paid for your education.

While the subjects being taught at your university are no doubt, not exclusive to the university.

I am sure that each teacher feels particular ownership over their lesson plans and the way they present.

In essence the property paid for is not What is being taught, but How it's being taught.

  • They are not free.

Books in library are bought by your tax money, which in my opinion, is not supposed to be there because tax is collected by force.
