Well it was career suicide...Look at the democratic singers that get pissy or publicly support a democrat. So it was bad for them. You dont see anyone speaking out now days because all that have did wind up on the other side of the tracks sorta speak. And yes I believe if a man said something like they did, I do believe the same end result would happen!!! It just all depends on the comment really and how many fans are there to support them.

Actually the two sisters have their own band and have had it for quite some time. So technically they are still selling albums. And I believe the lead singer has her own single album

The comment about Bush no doubt hurt their fan base, not to mention their little feud with Toby Keith. I think Keith probably had a much bigger fan base at the time and more people sided with him. Dixie Chicks are good musicians no doubt, but out of the two, look who's still selling albums and making music.

Oh, come on. None should have been surprised by the Dixie Chicks' anti-American comments in London ("we're on the good side with y'all," meaning the USA was/is the bad side). In previous years, the group released a series of liberal or feminazi songs. Certainly none were/are conservative & only one was born outside the mostly liberal New England states (Martie was born in Pennsylvania, Emily in Massachusetts). Conservatives/Republicans supported them anyway by buying (gobbling up) their music.
