Tilting Flaps (Horizontal rotation) to drive wind power generators or gearboxes. This kind of driving arrangement offers a strong torque to drive the power generator or gearbox. It is more efficient than traditional ones. This arrangement is composed of a set of tilting flaps which rotate in a plane parallel to wind direction; flaps are capable to adjust their positions to face wind current to be effective then to return to their initial ineffective positions in predetermined points. Driving torque can be increased by elongating torque arm and/or increasing the surface area of the flaps. The increased driving torque can result in making use of slower wind to drive generators, enlarging geographical maps of areas to be served and increasing numbers of users.

  • i built a proto type of this years ago, it doesnt work very well though

  • Working on a bigger flapper that has 4'x8' panels.

  • How about dropping the tail idea and using wind and gravity to tilt the flaps ?

  • very interesting....nice idea

  • OR... the flaps would not have to be centered on the rod and gravity could turn it AND air pressure could turn it back on the "against the wind side". That was fun THANKS!

  • I like it!. May I suggest an interior cam device to turn the flaps that is linked to an exterior tail that the wind pushes down wind to synchronize it with the direction of the wind for optimal power. OR... if the flaps do not turn quit completly flat it would leave enough so the wind would push the flap perpendicular to the wind. (continued)

  • I like your idea, I just dont know how practical it is? Have you tested it?

  • Very neat!
