  • This silly claim that Ampex developed the first practical tape recorder in 1947 is way off. The first machines were developed in Germany in the 1930's and used in WW11 to confuse the enemy. The Magnetophone was shown at the Berlin Radio Show in the 1935 (see Magnetophon in Wikipedia). Machines were taken back to the States at the end of the war to investigate them. Bing funded Ampex to develop two machines to make it possible to record his radio shows for different time zones.

  • The video should have mentioned that Ampex is an American electronics company founded in 1944 by Alexander M. Poniatoff.

The name AMPEX is an acronym, created by its founder, which stands for Alexander M. Poniatoff. The EX is for Excellence.
