On April 2, 2009 Bogdan Prokopovych, PhD student in the School of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island, finished his 2009 US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS) fellowship. He traveled to Tajikistan, where he conducted research on alternative energy use in Tajikistan as a specialist-in-residence at the US Embassy. During his fellowship, Prokopovych traveled to multiple cities, including Dushanbe, Nurek, Faizobod, and Rogun, where he explored Tajikistans potential for utilizing solar energy resources at the request of the embassy officials. As part of his research travel, Prokopovych visited a number of organizations, including the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the National Technical University of Tajikistan, and carried out a series of interviews with influential policymakers and industry experts to collect information on energy systems and the current state of the Tajik infrastructure.
