My personal opinion based on several experiences. I drove for 6 years a car without ABS and had a lot of experiences in it. After another car crashed head on with me and totaled my car, now I drive an ABS equiped car, I´ve been driving it for more than a year, and had also lots of experiences.

  • There are at least three studies which show that drivers' response to antilock brakes is to drive faster, follow closer and brake later, accounting for the failure of ABS to result in any measurable improvement in road safety. The studies were performed in Canada, Denmark and Germany. Search for "Risk Compensation"

  • ABS sucks....i tried getting my car down a slope...and just because this stupid abs does not let the wheels to lock up i eventually ended bumping into wall

  • @MrAmansyed hehe, a couple of years ago me and my friends were going down a hill and my friends truck couldn't stop because of the lose gravel and ABS, if anything it kept speeding up.

  • Nice video!! But l would like to know if you prefer with ABS or without ABS??

    A car with manual transmission its a good help to make a sudden brake if you dont have ABS. Just level down gears making a brake with the motor while you re breaking normally. I have been driven the last 5 years without ABS and it helps nicely.

    PS: Only emergencies cases. Its not recommendable for the motor doing that.

  • @ArturikGDL Thanks, I personally preffer driving without ABS. Just like you I´ve always driven manual transmission, and engine braking sure does help, I dont get why ppl dont believe it, but meh... Ive driven all my life manual, but this past year I had to re-enable ABS for technicar purposes. I don't like it, and I feel like I've been losing practice on emergency braking. Bottom line I do preffer manual and non abs, I feel under control at all times, therefore safer. tnx for ur comment!

  • Might work when driving straight forward in ideal road condition = the same surface under all wheels (to avoid spinning due to different breaking force in left/right side), good adhesion (even experienced driver is not able to feel the right point on ice).

    But try braking without ABS in a curve or with one side of the car on snow/dust and other one on asphalt and see what happens (no, don't try it - the second one can make you lose control and spin the car even when driving as slow as 20km/h).

  • had a friend driving 2 cars behind me in a car with no ABS. he comes in too fast for a corner, hits the brakes while understeering, and locks his wheels up.

    hit a guard rail and pushed it back pretty far, almost fell down 200 feet on a mountain road.

  • ABS +++

  • @julesTEO its not exactly great for the motor. when you downshift depending on your speed and gearing, you could be pushing into an RPM band that puts more stress on the engine. on a properly tuned engine, this might not be a problem, but any car thats running an "off the shelf" tune i dont consider to be "properly" tuned. its as simple as what would you rather replace, tires/pads/rotors? a transmission? or the motor?

  • When they are doing the tests, they don't show the part when no ABS vehicle stops faster, because:

    try to imagine a situation .. driving at 60mph and suddenly something runs in front of you, What do you do? slam the brakes or try to brake without locking the wheels?

    Well yes.. slam the brakes. And as the video shows you'll most probably hit it at a slower speed, or not at all if you have an ABS equipped vehicle.

  • need to know the music/song title, please. realy enjoy to hear rather saw the ABS Demo...hehe

  • @MrAmansyed I was going down an icy hill with ABS it was horrible.. Could not slow down worth nothing. Had to pulse the pulses eventually got it to slow down enough to do a sliding menouver around a corner to get off the slope.

  • abs saved my life
