  • Mahler’s 9th (especially its conclusion here) is a startling and glorious musical (or, better stated, human) reaction to the richness of life and the recognition and acceptance of its heartbreaking but inescapable finish in death. Unquestionably one of the most beautiful and faithfully expressive pieces of music ever created by a mortal, a composition perhaps by its being, in its human creation, informed, shaped, delivered and immortalized through Mahler from the guiding heart of his Creator.

  • My eyes water thinking about it.

    I cry talking about it.

    I weep listening to it.

If this is what death feels like, I'm ready (but not suicidal).
